Large breed puppies differ from small breed puppies in several ways: size, growth rate, skeletal development, just to name a few. In turn, they require a different dietary approach than small breed puppies. Breeder's Select™ Large & Giant Breed Puppy Formula is specially formulated to support proper growth without allowing the large breed puppy to grow too quickly. If the growth is too rapid, the extra weight can cause stress on the joints, causing abnormal wear and development. This leads to joint problems as the dog matures such as hip dysphasia.
There is higher protein in the puppy food to help this growth process. Also added are the proper amounts of glucosamine HCL and chondroitin sulfate for joints. This amount is lower than needed for the adult formula.
A balanced blend of fatty acids from ingredients like chicken fat, flaxseed meal, menhaden fish meal and sunflower oil are added to provide appropriate levels of important fatty acids specific to the needs of the large breed's demanding skin and coat. This formula is completed with a variety of minerals, vitamins and assorted supplements to provide your puppy with an excellent balanced diet to assure you of proper growth and joint development.
